The Client & The Challenge
Tooth & Claw is a modern craft brewery known for its creative, small-batch beers and commitment to brewing responsibly. Like many busy breweries, they recognised room for improvement in efficiency but lacked the time to pinpoint where their biggest losses were occurring, likely it could have taken months whereas we can do it in days as we have a laser focus and proven methodologies.
Average production losses were above the industry standard, directly affecting both profitability and sustainability targets. Tooth & Claw wanted to understand their true performance and identify achievable, process-driven ways to reduce waste without major capital investment.
Our Approach
Brew Resourceful carried out a Losses Audit in May 2024 with Head Brewer Ryan Shore. Prior to the visit, the team reviewed the brewery’s standard operating procedures to gain a clear understanding of existing processes.
On site, every stage of production was observed and measured to quantify where volume, cost, and carbon losses were taking place. The audit focused on realistic, brewer-led improvements that could be implemented quickly and deliver measurable benefits.
Key Findings
The audit identified several key areas of loss reduction and their potential savings. To protect the breweries data the findings below have combined cost savings and potential new revenue. In their report it’s clearly separated and reduction in costs used as ROI.

True Cost Insights
Each litre of lost beer represents more than raw material waste; it carries energy, water, CO₂, and labour costs. Quantifying these hidden costs revealed that process inefficiencies were inflating the true cost of production. Understanding this impact helped Tooth & Claw prioritise improvements that deliver both financial and environmental returns.
What's Tooth & Claw's Opinion?
“Chris helped us see where our everyday processes were costing us far more than we realised. His practical approach means we’re reducing waste and improving efficiency using what we already have, without heavy CAPEX. He’s optimistic, approachable, and makes complex data simple to act on.”

Future Plans & Reinvestment
Savings will be reinvested into CAPEX projects that continue to drive profitability and reduce carbon emissions. By focusing on efficiency first, Tooth & Claw are funding their next phase of sustainability improvements through the gains achieved from this project.
